Our Fall 2010 social skills groups are forming to meet weekly with two groups forming – one for teens ages 13 through 17 and another group for young adults ages 18 through 30.

Teens Social Thinking Group
Social problem-solving will be taught in a structured environment with cooperative learning activities where students can experience success.  Students will learn through the ILAUGH Model of Social Cognition (Winner, 2000) and the I Can Problem solve (Shure & Israeloff, 2001) approaches as well as learn how to use Braidy® from Story GrammarMarker®  (Moreau) to learn how to take another’s perspective.

Young Adults Social Thinking Group
Whether a book or movie club fits your style, come join our group to learn about the nuances of interacting in the real world, including accepting constructive criticism.   Improving your executive functioning will help you to make best use of your organizational skills for daily living.

TESTIMONIAL

Raising a teen with social communication challenges is a daunting task. As parents, we worry about how our children will fare in high school and beyond, where social saavy is key to their well-being and success as members of society. Barbara really gets it! Her social thinking groups have helped my son in many ways, including fostering the ability to understand when he is being taken advantage of, and giving him strategies and skills to stand up for himself. One of Barbara's strengths is that she offers practical communication instruction that addresses real-life issues. For young adults, whose social difficulties are communication-based, I have yet to meet a professional who has more expertise, compassion and devotion to meeting their social communication needs.
